The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner
Ashley Noh

This story was recommended by my mom, when she read this book at the library. She told me some backgrounds of this book, which was in Afghanistan. When I heard it, I was happy and thoroughly grateful, that I was not born in Afghanistan, because there were many wars in that place and I know that war is a dreadful thing that must not happen. So this is my connection with this book.

In this book there is a boy named Amir. He has a rich father who is very wealthy, so that he has a boy about the same age as Amir as a servant. However, Amir thinks that his father is treating the servant, Hassan better than him. One day, Amir and Hassan go to a kiting competition and he wins the game. So Amir calls on Hassan to fetch the kite that he won. But on his way, Hassan gets raped by Amir’s enemy Assef. Because of this Hassan goes away, and do not become a servant to Amir.
As years passed, Amir has raised a family, and get’s called from his father’s best friend from Afghanistan. When he gets there he hears really surprising news that his father had kept in the whole time. His father was married 2 times and one of his sons was Amir, and the other one was Hassan. Surprised, Amir was eager to find Hassan, but eventually, he hears a sad new that he died because of the Taleban, a group of people who conquered Afghanistan after the Soviet Union. However, Hassan had a boy, Sorap, who was now Taleban’s servant. Amir goes to find him and faces with bewilderment, because he sees Assef who is now a high position in Taleban. He fights with Assef, and at last, Sorap who was good at shooting with rubber guns, shoots Asseff’s eyes. And he runs away with Amir. And they live together. One day, they have a kiting competition too. But now Sorap flies the kite, and Amir caches the kite. At this point the story ends.

I think that the author in this book is telling the relationships between somebody, by the kite competition when somebody flies the kite and someone catching the kite. Because first when Hassan to fetches the kite, it is saying, that person is believing you and relying on the person flying the kite. And at the last part, when Sorap flies the kite, and Amir caches the kite, Amir is relying on Sorap. This is one of my best books that I have read recently. I knew the feelings of the Afghanistan history and the growth of one kid living in that coountry.

I hope everyone would read it!!!!

Debate

In M poly we had a debate topic and it was a very interesting topic it is should former criminals should have the right to vote. I voted on the pro side because of three reasons I have written below.

Debate stator speech
Ashley Noh
IS ESUM A-1
Resolution: Former criminals should have the right to vote

Pro side
Arguments
1.    Voting is a human right.
In the Declaration of Independence & Lincoln's Gettysburg Address it says that all men are created equal. Even though they are former criminals they have the right to vote.

2.    Many elections have low turnout.
America’s population is estimated at nearly 529 million people. But according to a poll, only 30% of the Americans vote for the politicians in their nation. Even though there are less people who are voting, why do we not want former criminals to vote?

3.    When a criminal came out of jail. It means that they are not a criminal anymore but a citizen.
The first aim of making the jail is to make the criminal not to pay the price of crime but to rehabilitate. And if they became a former criminal it means that they can be a part in the community. They can be enjoyed by all fundamental rights which the citizen can enjoy.

The Giver

This book was recommended by a teacher at a academy. When I saw this book cover it had a picture of an old man with a very white and long beard. Well, it looked quite boring. The teacher said it was a very fun book and when she read it she couldn't stop reading. I thought it was a exasperation. At the end of the day I slowly opened the book. Then like magic I felt like a wind swooshing me and getting me inside the book.
 The story goes like this....
There is a little world that Jonas lives in. In that world everything is perfect. There is no choice, pain, and war. Every person is being watched.  Each year they have a ceremony. When they turn 9, they get a bycicle, 9 years old get get their hair cut up to their ears. In another year they get a jacket. But the most important ceremony is a 12year ceremony. It is a day when the 12 get their jobs. Other people pick out someone's job. Jonas got the greatest job in the community he becomes the Receiver. The Receiver can do many powerful things. He can lie which was impossible to do. And you can ask for anything. For example he could tell the person to let the speaker off. It was the first day to have a special training from the Giver. He went to the Giver. When time passed he knew many things such as pain, happiness, and loneliness. It was his job to receive the memories that were from the past. He also saw colors.  One day he was curious what did his father do to the babies that were twins. In his community they didn't allow twins and elders. They were 'realesed'. Jonas asked the Giver so he could show what his father did. But at the time he saw it he cried. "My father killed the babies!" He cried sorrowfully and said he wasn't going home. At last he tried running his community. Too painful of hunger.
The story lasts at this point. It was a very sad and interesting story. I think it was the best book that I read. The author is imagining about a world with no pain. No problem to happen. But still there are having problems. It tells you nothing is perfect. In this society there was no freedom of choice. By reading this book I felt it is very important that I can choose things  I want. Although it may be the wrong and difficult choice.

She goes to a normal school with her friend Harper. Harper is not a wizard but only she knows that Alex's family is a wizard. There are funny scenes in the movie. I wached the movie. Alex is funny and has great leadership also she is like me when she goes to school and talks. I wish I had a cool friend like her.

My home sweet home

At last my home. This is my first time writing this post in my blog at home. Today was a very tired day here is what I did.

At 6:00 clock the crazy alarm bell went ringing I couldn't even wake up at 7:00 clock but why bother to wake up so early in the last day at camp, just to get the bed sheets and pillows. Yesterday, we got the stands on the -1 floor. I was very happy to go. Well back to the story I was the only one late and the teacher called at me for being late. All the other students were lining up in a row with their roomates. I quckly got in a line. The P.A's said we had to get the bed sheets, covers, pilloall to the 1st floor. So we went back to our room and got our pillows and other thing ready to go down to the 1st floor. But when I got to the elevator almost all of the people were getting down. Unfotuanetly, I had to go to the stairs. Poor me and my friends is it a sin because our floor is on the 6th floor the middle. I think it would be fun to watchme and my friends walking down the stairs half of our eyes closed and walking with their pillows and bed sheets. When we went back I layed down in our dormitory room floor. Well it was the last time to slep in there. I was saying bye to everything. I ate our last breakfast, went to Dasan building for the last time and went to English building, also for the last time.

In the debate I first debated with class21. All of my teamates were boys so we wern't that friendly then the girls and didn;t meet too often. My parents came at the second debate. In the first debate I was the Opposition reply. The resolution was reunification will develop the quality of life for South Koreans. We lost that debate. But we had another debate and I hoped I could win. Because my parents were wathing and one of our class mates said that she lost every game. I felt sorry for her. Hppily our team won the debate. When I was finished I took pictures with Mr. Urban, 명도형 T.A, 정유진 P.A ,and lastly 남지은 P.A. Me and my family ate lunch at the cafeteria. Boy it was yucky. Maybe it was better compared to other lunch but still it was bad.

My mom gave presents to some teachers and I waved to everything that I past by. When I got on the car I hoped that I could come back when I am in hogh school.

Back from home it only took 2hours to go home. And of course I slept in the car. I went inside the home. In my eyes my home looked like a hotel. It might seem weird to you but really it felt like it. My room was wonderful. Now I feel like I could study all day. I could use the computer whenever I want to.

I am so happy that I am in home!
